Library Assistant, Hamilton-Wenham Public Library (Hamilton)

The Library Assistant I works at both the circulation and children’s desks. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: provide positive, courteous service to the public in a team-oriented environment to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction; assist at the Circulation Desk, including checking materials in and out to patrons, answering the telephone and directing calls, and registering new borrowers; assist patrons with copier and fax machine; assist patrons in locating materials in the library and answer patron questions; handle overdue and billing notices while maintaining the highest level of patron confidentiality; reserve and distribute museum passes using online software; handle, process and organize reserve requests and interlibrary loan items; shelve library materials and maintain proper order in collection by reading shelves; assist in the preparation of informative displays and exhibits and rotates new materials in and out; assist at the Children’s Room desk as needed.


Degree from an accredited two or four-year college 
One or more years of relevant experience within a public library system, preferred
Experience with downloadable media, internet/browsers, and proficiency in Microsoft Office necessary
Ability to maintain good public relations and deal with members of the public in a pleasant and courteous manner

$17.51  / hour

Salary Notes

18 hours a week (one evening a week, one Saturday every three weeks) - AFSCME Union position - hourly rate will increase 7/1.
