Archivist/Digital Assets Librarian, Bridgewater Public Library (Bridgewater)
Essential Job Functions:
· Acts as a librarian, archivist, cataloger, organizer and guardian of library assets. Lead digitization and archiving initiatives for the library and be an expert resource for similar initiatives in other town departments.
· Spearhead new initiatives and opportunities to increase accessibility of library resources for the public.
· Perform maintenance and ongoing assessment of the library’s digital resources and online platforms.
· Oversee virtual reference services and provide training/education to patrons.
· Collaborate with the Reference Librarian to ensure digital resources and the library’s physical collections form a cohesive and complementary whole that serves the needs of the Bridgewater Community.
· Oversee technology-based programming and patron education.
· Responsible for ensuring a consistent and positive user experience at the reference desk and other areas of the library when dealing with information requests, research, and technology. Identify and interpret patron needs; provide reference, public computer assistance and database services to library patrons in person, on the telephone, and by electronic means.
· Maintain and troubleshoot staff and public computer workstations and related equipment, while assisting in developing the library’s technology plan.
· Provide evolving technology instruction to patrons. Handle regular shifts on the public service desks, collection development, and manage the library's local history collection. Writes grant proposals and administers funded grant projects.
· Prepare monthly and statistical reports for state reporting and to facilitate maintenance of the library collection.
· Attend consortium and regional meetings and participate in continuing education to keep current with the latest technologies and trends as they relate to a public library setting.
· In cooperation with other departments, review and develop policies and procedures for overall library operation to recommend to the Director & Assistant Director.
· May undertake special projects, committee work, and other tasks as needed at the request of the Library Director or their designee.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program with a focus on archiving, digital asset management, or related field of study. Three years of professional library experience. Experience with DAM systems, library systems, content management systems, or other large searchable databases. Demonstrated knowledge of archiving best practices. Working knowledge of standard metadata models. The drive to assist patrons in a highly patron-centric library environment. Excellent communication skills, patience, problem solving, and the ability to work with patrons and staff with varying levels of expertise. Familiarity with website design and graphic design desirable. Strong desire to innovate and integrate library resources into the community. Ability to assess technologies for acquisition and ensure efficient integration and staff training. Should be able to work well independently and as part of a team; to maintain patron confidentiality; to push book carts and bins loaded with library materials; to reach and retrieve books at high and low shelf heights; to stand/sit for prolonged periods of time; to be able to assist lifting up to 30 pounds
