Youth Services Assistant and Library Assistant, Truro Public Library (Truro)

The Truro Public Library seeks qualified candidates for part-time (23 hours per week) benefited position of Youth Services Assistant/Library Assistant.
Under general direction of the Library Director, Library Associates provide direct customer service to library patrons of all ages at the Circulation and Children’s Desks. Performs day-to-day circulation tasks including, checking items in/out, helping patrons locate materials, answering telephones, and shelving materials. This position will include Saturday shifts and potentially evening shifts (until 8:00 p.m.).

Note:  This position comes with a $1,500 signing bonus.

Essential Functions:

Daily job responsibilities/functions to include, but not limited to:

·Provide customer service for library users.

·Help people locate reference and leisure reading materials.

·Collect and catalog library resources including books, films, and publications.

·Must maintain patron privacy and handle small monetary transactions according to library policy.

·Manages cataloging and circulation of serials.

·Assists the Youth Services Librarian with preparation and executing activities and programs for children.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·Knowledge of computers, the internet, and commercially available library software

·Demonstrated knowledge of library materials and resources

·Good communication and interpersonal skills

·Good client/customer service skills

·Ability to quickly and professionally search databases, internet resources, and catalogs to find needed information.

Qualifications: Associate degree or higher preferred.

Salary Range

$27.02 - $35.25  / hour

Salary Notes

This position comes with a $1,500 signing bonus.
