Shelver, Eldredge Public Library (Chatham)

Job Location: 564 Main Street, Chatham, MA 02633, This position must be on site due to the nature of the role. 

Company Information and Work Environment:

The Eldredge Public Library (EPL) was a gift to the people of Chatham from one of its natives, Marcellus Eldredge, in 1896. The EPL is now privately managed by a Board of Trustees and a Director as a 501(c)(3) organization, with the land and building owned by the Town of Chatham. The EPL strives to meet the informational, recreational, and cultural needs of Chatham residents and visitors, and it continues its historical tradition as a free public library, providing professional and exceptional customer service, exemplary materials, resources and programs, current technologies, meeting space, academic support and opportunities for community connection and public discourse in a safe, inclusive and neutral setting.

Role Overview:

The purpose of the Shelver role is to support the circulation staff with the organization and availability of materials to patrons within the library. Assists in maintaining shelving, facing, shelf reading, etc. to ensure books are in proper order. Answers directional questions and refers patrons to appropriate personnel. The Shelver will primarily assist in Youth Services, aiding in Adult Services when able.

This position is 8 hours total, 4 days a week at 2 hours a shift.

Knowledge and Skills:

Ability to arrange items in numerical and alphabetical order with complete accuracy
Attention to detail and organizational skills
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
Physical ability to lift/carry up to 40 pounds, frequently standing, walking, bending, and kneeling. Must be able to perform duties in an office setting, subject to quiet to moderate noise 

Benefits offered:

 Paid Time Off:  Paid time off benefits are offered to all permanent employees working at least 7 regularly scheduled hours per week. Employees who work at least 7 and under 20 hours per week are eligible for PTO. Employees with a minimum of 20 hours per week are eligible for vacation, wellness, and bereavement time.

Paid Holidays: The Library observes 15 paid holidays a year. In addition, holiday equivalents are offered for those not scheduled to work on an observed holiday.

Medical: The Town of Chatham offers and administrates group health insurance benefits. Medical, Dental, Vision and Life insurance

Other Benefits: The Library offers an IRA to employees working at least 20 hours, and short and long-term disability to employees working at least 30 hours a week.
