Head of Youth Services, Westfield Athenaeum (Westfield)

Reporting to the Director, the Head of Youth Services is responsible for coordinating and administering all programming, activities, and collection development for the Youth Services Department and the teen program This position requires the understanding of contemporary library services, children's literature and resources, YA literature, as well as the ability to build effective working relationships within the library, schools, and community. In addition, this position requires demonstrated expertise in early literacy, youth development, and customer service to families. As the department head, the person in this role will work with the director to develop short and long-term goals, with appropriately identified objectives and priorities, oversee staffing, and conduct appropriate reviews of staff.

Qualifications

1. A Masters of Library and Information Science degree from an ALA accredited program is highly suggested and applicants with that degree will be given priority.

2. Three to five years of experience managing or working in a Youth Services Department of a public library, or equivalent experience working with youth in an institutional setting is desired.

3. Experience with current information technologies and developments in all areas related to public libraries, and the ability to teach those technologies to staff.

Salary Notes

Employees with an MLS receive a bonus of $1,500 a year above the hourly wage.
