Assistant Librarian for Public Services, Wellfleet Public Library (Wellfleet)

The Public Services Librarian is the face of the library and must be service oriented and have the ability to create an environment that makes patrons feel welcome and comfortable. The Public Services Librarian is the primary point of contact at the Circulation Desk. 
Provide reference and reader’s advisory service directly to the public; assist patrons in locating library materials.
Provide instruction on public computers for issues such as email, Microsoft suite, and web-based queries. 
Offer guidance and instruction in the use of the reference collection, electronic resources and online databases. 
Provide regular “tech hours” for patrons, including assisting them with their devices, helping them set up and use electronic resources.
Provide Interlibrary Loan and Commonwealth Catalog service for resources outside the CLAMS system.
Supervise public computers and their use.
Explore new electronic resources as they become available and make recommendations for purchase; educate staff on the usage of electronic materials.
Represent the Library at CLAMS public service and reference meetings.
Attend training within the CLAMS system.
Work with primary selectors of materials to recommend items that patrons request.
Train and supervise volunteers. 
Perform all duties at the Circulation Desk which include, charging and discharging library materials, registering new borrowers, sorting and shelving materials, answering inquiries on the telephone and in person, operating fax, copy machine, and scanner.
Assist with opening and closing procedures.


·         MLS from an ALA accredited program OR BA and completion of MA Basic Library Techniques courses. OR significant experience in a public library setting. 

·         Excellent computer and device (phone and tablet in both iOS and Android) problem solving skills.

·         Written and verbal communication skills.

·         Considerable knowledge of a wide variety of library materials.

·         Ability to manage multiple tasks in a detailed, accurate, and timely manner.

·         Ability to work in a team setting and desire to collaborate with other members of the staff. 

·         Desire to remain knowledgeable in current library trends. 

·         Ability and desire to work with the public. 

·         Knowledge of philosophy and functions of a public library and ability to project a positive image of the Library.

Salary Range

$30.00 - $34.48  / hour

Salary Notes

This is a full-time, on-site, 35/hr. per week job.
