Library Page, Mattapoisett Free Public Library (Mattapoisett)
The Town of Mattapoisett seeks a qualified person for the position of part-time Page at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library. This individual will be responsible for shelving materials in proper location, organizing magazines and newspapers, and keeping shelves in order based on Dewey decimal system and alphabetization. This person will also assist staff with various materials collection projects, cover the youth desk when needed, and other clerical tasks as assigned. Knowledge of basic office machinery, such as copiers, fax machines, and computers preferred. May render basic assistance to patrons and refers in-depth inquiries to the appropriate staff. The employee is expected to abide by all municipal, state, and federal guidelines, regulations, and quality standards.
Attention to detail, resourcefulness and self-sufficiency are extremely important in this position. The candidate should also be well organized and able to work independently in an environment with frequent interruptions. This position is required to interact with residents, vendors and other Town Departments and must be able to do so tactfully and appropriately.
Qualifications
o Must have basic knowledge of library operations, policies and procedures.
o Must have the ability to use and understand the Dewey Decimal System, and alpha and numeric order.
o Must be able to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with staff, vendors, patrons, and community individuals.
o Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with patrons and staff of diverse backgrounds and ages.
o Must demonstrate high regard for patron privacy and the policies and procedures of the Town of Mattapoisett and the library network.
o Must have basic math and computer skills and the ability to learn SAILS Library Network, Internet applications, E-Readers or like operating systems.
o Must have ability to respond to inquiries-issues with tact and discretion, to work calmly and effectively under any conditions.
o Must have the ability to attend to detail and work independently.
o Must be able to operate equipment used to perform job.
o Must read, write, and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to the safety regulations.
The successful candidate will have a friendly attitude and demonstrate sensitivity, tact, discretion, and confidentiality. Must be able to deal respectfully and fairly with all people, including with complaints and challenges. Must be able to access all levels of a site/building/structure and climb a ladder. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Candidates with comparable experience are encouraged to apply.
