Interim Library Director, Pearle L. Crawford Memorial Library (Dudley)

The Board of Trustees of the Pearle L. Crawford Memorial Library seeks a dynamic individual with strong leadership skills for the position of Interim Library Director to lead the Library while the search committee interviews for the hiring of a full-time permanent Library Director. (The Interim Director has the option to apply for the full-time permanent Library Director position.) The Interim Director serves as the supervisor of all Library employees, providing leadership to the Library staff and ensuring the effective delivery of Library services. The Interim Director works closely with the Board of Trustees, and under the general supervision of the Town Administrator, to advocate for and enhance Library resources and services provided to our dedicated community of Library patrons.

·       Is knowledgeable in expanding collections and resources; creatively plans and implements Library programs; and trains and supports staff in current and emerging Library technology.

·       Is committed to providing quality Library service to the community based on its needs and within the limits of its available resources.

Responsibilities:
·       Oversee and supervise all aspects of day-to-day Library operations.
·       Fulfill Library financial and budget planning and management including preparing payroll, working with vendors and placing orders. 
·       Supervise, train and evaluate Library staff fostering professional development, a positive work environment and effective staff communication; delegate responsibilities among the staff members; and maintain a work schedule.
·       Attend monthly Board of Trustees meetings, provide a monthly progress report to Board Members; maintain effective communication with the Board.
·       Oversee development and implementation of Library policies and procedures in collaboration with the Library staff and the Library Board.
·       Attend Town department meetings and represent the Library at Town and Board of Selectmen’s meetings when necessary. 
·       Prepare and submit all annual and financial reports required by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners; maintain records as required by the state. 
·       Oversee the selection and acquisition of library materials and resources. 
·       Maintain and upgrade Library technology (software and hardware).
·       Schedule programs and events for all ages and interests.
·       Develop short and long-range/strategic planning and apply for public and private grants.
·       Maintain the Library website and social media; promote Library events to local media.
·       Respond to patron requests, suggestions and resolve service issues.
·       Advocate for and promote the Library within the community.
·       Cover duties of circulation aides in their absence; recruit/supervise volunteers as necessary.
·       Oversee and manage the facility to provide a safe, inclusive, and inviting Library space.
·       Manage the development of an outdoor reading space.

Qualifications

An MLS from an ALA accredited program is preferred; at least four years of public library experience including progressively responsible levels with at least one year of supervisory experience. Prior Library Director experience preferred including a working knowledge of the CWMars Evergreen circulation software. Must have a high degree of motivation, initiative and resourcefulness and the ability to exercise independent judgment in problem solving and decision-making.

$68,000.00 - $72,000.00  / year

Salary Notes

Salary is commensurate with experience. This is an exempt, salaried position.
