Youth Educational Outreach Coordinator, Boston Public Library (Boston)
Overview:
Position Overview
Performs any or all phases of work in support of central library and neighborhood outreach services and provides administrative guidance to the library’s program to provide Homework Assistance and out of school time activities.

Responsibilities:
Scope of Responsibility
Provides development, oversight, guidance and coordination for library programs providing homework assistance and out-of-school-time activities. Works with Youth Services management in setting and evaluating goals for the program. Prepares reports as needed.
Hires and trains mentors and volunteers involved in the program. Provides additional mentorship as needed.
Collaborates with community groups, city agencies, non-profits, and others to bring enhanced library programs providing homework assistance and out-of-school-time activities across the library system.
Works with administrators and staff system-wide to deploy and support outreach services for children and teens. Services may include but are not limited to pre-school and youth programming, and teen services.
Assists the Assistant Manager of Youth Services in the development and coordination of innovative, educational block programming for children and teens system-wide as needed.
Communicates effectively with internal and external partners. Works with appropriate staff to procure materials necessary for successful programs. Facilitates payment for performers and presenters.
Works with Communications and Web Services departments to provide homework help and after-school programming content for calendar/press coverage, social media tools, and targeted outreach plans.
Provides professional staff support for outreach events at locations throughout the city.
Works with staff to evaluate outreach services.
As assigned, represents library at local and national conferences.
Performs other related and comparable duties as assigned.
Competencies
Proficiency with MSWord, Publisher, Power Point, and Excel. Familiarity with and interest in a broad range of social networking and online collaboration tools.
Ability to execute library policy.

Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university and a master's degree in education or library and information science. Two years of professional library or educational programming experience. In exceptional circumstances, specialized training/experience may be substituted for all or part of the educational requirement.
Experience
Programming experience with children and teens desired. Knowledge of broad-based library or educational programming practices, including current trends in youth outreach services. Excellent knowledge of online communications and social networking tools.
Requirements
Ability to travel to BPL locations as well as to off-site locations.
Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
Residency - Must be a resident of the City of Boston upon the first day of hire.
CORI - Must successfully clear a Criminal Offenders Record Information check with the City of Boston.
