Reference Librarian - Adult Services, Westwood Public Library (Westwood)
REFERENCE LIBRARIAN – ADULT SERVICES
Westwood Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and flexible team player who is creative, forward-thinking and committed to providing excellent customer service in an engaging team environment. The Reference Librarian will proactively provide diverse and vibrant programming, strong Readers’ Advisory, and robust materials collection development to support the Library’s mission. This position reports directly to the Head of Adult Services.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Provides a broad range of library services, including reference and information service, Readers’ Advisory and technology assistance to the public at the main and branch libraries.
· Contributes relevant material and insight designing, developing and supporting the library’s online, mobile, and digital presence, including website and digitization projects.
· Keeps current in aspects of librarianship: e.g., technology, literature, news, emerging trends.
· Incorporates new and existing technology as appropriate to enhance library resources and services.
· Instructs patrons in use of library tools, including online database searches and downloadable and streaming media apps.
· Processes interlibrary loans, including books and periodicals.
· Reserves meeting rooms.
· Provides instruction and basic troubleshooting for public computers, laptops, tablets, audio-visual projection equipment, printing/scanning/faxing and other technological devices; trains and assists staff and patrons on use of library technology and library services platforms.
· Seeks and applies for additional funding opportunities to expand and enhance library services and patron experience.
· Ability to design effective print and non-print materials (including social media initiatives) to publicize literacy, library resources, services and programs.
Qualifications
M.L.S. from an A.L.A.-accredited institution and minimum of one year of progressively responsible experience in library operations. Proven track record working with adults, particularly in a public library setting. Must have a solid understanding of technology and social media and excellent public relations and research skills; self-starter who requires minimal supervision; flexible and an enthusiastic team player. Thorough knowledge of library principles and practices, particularly as they relate to library advocacy and outreach, including such tenets as equity, diversity and inclusion, intellectual freedom, literacy, and patron privacy.
