Library Director, Falmouth Public Library (Falmouth)
The Falmouth Board of Library Trustees is seeking an experienced professional with a record of success to serve as the Director of the Falmouth Public Library, which consists of the Main Library with North and East branches. The successful candidate is a forward-thinking and engaging leader who is adept at planning and managing library operations under the general direction and governance of the Board of Trustees and the administrative direction of the Town Manager. The ideal applicant has strong communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to foster a staff culture of mutual respect and support.
The Library Director manages the use of library resources at the Main Library and two branches, including purchasing, annual and capital budgeting, facilities management, planning, staffing, and evaluating programs and services. The Director also develops and recommends policies to the Board of Library Trustees; implements policies as they are adopted and ensures adherence; manages a staff of 40+ employees in collaboration with the Assistant Director; pursues public relations opportunities; oversees collection development; seeks outside funding opportunities; and is responsible for managing the expenditure of funds and associated financial records while ensuring adherence to the Town's procurement requirements. In addition, the Library Director leads the Library’s participation in the Cape Libraries Automated Materials Sharing (CLAMS) Network and directs a state-funded program of reference and interlibrary loan services in the Southeastern Massachusetts Library System. S/he serves as a liaison from the Library to the Falmouth Public Library Support Fund's Board of Directors, and the Friends of the Falmouth Public Library, both nonprofit groups that generously support the Library.
Salary Range: $105,664/year (Step 1) – $129,147/year (Step 7), commensurate with qualifications and experience, with room to advance along the ten-step pay scale. Comprehensive benefits package, including enrollment in the Town’s pension plan.

Qualifications
Minimum requirements include a master’s degree in library science (MLS) and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in public library administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicants must have or obtain a Professional Certificate of Librarianship from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC), and knowledge of the principles and practices of public library administration, personnel management, budgeting, collection development, long-range planning, and facilities management. Additional hours are required to attend evening meetings and provide off-hour services, in case of emergency situations that may occur in the evenings or during weekends.
