Technical Services Librarian, Meekins Library (Williamsburg)
General Description:
Meekins Library is seeking a team player to bring strong technical skills, enthusiasm for librarianship in a small rural community, up-to-date knowledge of the technology landscape and a desire to help others learn. Our ideal candidate will have experience working in libraries/municipalities/nonprofits, troubleshooting problems and seeing projects through from concept to completion. We’re looking for a professional who has experience being hands-on when installing, maintaining, or troubleshooting hardware and software, whether the problem is simple or challenging. We rely on robust, reliable, accessible, and secure technology services for staff and patrons. Our ideal candidate will be someone who succeeds when working independently or collaboratively, thrives on variety and challenges, has excellent interpersonal skills, and knows how to turn ideas and plans into action.
Duties:
Under the direction of the Library Director and/or Assistant Director, this position is responsible for cataloging classification, serials, preparation (book covering, etc.) and maintenance of print and non-print library materials. Recommends, develops, and implements approved policies and procedures related to cataloging and processing, following the CWMARS protocols, to achieve optimum patron access to library materials.
Promotes and maintains all digital resources the library offers.
Provides positive public service regarding reference questions and assistance to patrons with any computer access questions.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned. Under the direction of the Library Director, assists with programs, collection development, and weeding areas of the collection.
Participates in professional development and follows professional literature and resources to expand knowledge of library trends, skills, and best practices.
Performs routine troubleshooting of computer hardware, software, and peripherals and other equipment such as photocopiers, audio-visual equipment. Provides technical support to patrons, staff, and library volunteers.
Serves as the Central and Western Massachusetts Resource Sharing (CW MARS) Coordinator, relaying and implementing technical updates and training staff on new procedures.
Qualifications
College degree required; Master’s degree in Library Science preferred. Three to five years of library experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Strong technology skills; expertise in website maintenance, social media, and digital delivery of content is a plus.
