Acquisitions & Cataloging Specialist, Smith College (Northampton)

Job Summary

Provide quality service in acquiring, processing and cataloging physical and digital library resources for the Smith College Libraries with a particular emphasis on collection management. Actively support cross-unit collaboration and special projects. Work collaboratively with colleagues across departments on ongoing work and discrete projects to ensure the libraries' resource needs are met. Engage with colleagues across the Five College Consortium around shared work and priorities. Utilize principles of DEIA in identifying vendors and selecting materials.



Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)

Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus 3 years experience working in a library or similar type of organization; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Excellent organization, problem solving, and communication skills
High level of attention to detail
Ability to apply complex procedures and to organize and prioritize work effectively
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Enthusiasm for troubleshooting
Proficiency with standard office software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs) and
Familiarity with library software (e.g. FOLIO, EBSCO's Holdings Management or similar, OCLC Connexion, etc.) and MARC standards.
 
Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working in a library services platform (LSP)
Experience with basic copy cataloging
Knowledge of and comfort with library, financial, and reporting technologies
Skills
Excellent organization, problem solving, and communication skills; high level of attention to detail
Ability to apply complex procedures and to organize and prioritize work effectively
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Enthusiasm for troubleshooting
