Youth Services Supervisor, McArthur Library (Biddeford, ME)

Biddeford is located just 25 minutes south of Portland, Maine, and about 45 minutes north of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. There is a beautiful coastline with great beaches, and Southern Maine is a fantastic place to live that is accessible to Seacoast New Hampshire and Boston. Maine is a huge and beautiful State, and the rest of Vacationland is of course never too far away to start exploring – you would be close to so many amenities and have an amazing base from which to indulge in all of your seasonal activities and hobbies!

The City itself has undergone a rebirth, especially in the last decade, with many new award-winning restaurants and retail establishments, while still embracing its historic past as a New England mill town. Biddeford is a diverse and friendly place to live, and the youngest City in the State of Maine. We are seeing an influx of new residents and library patrons regularly. Over the last two years post-COVID, we have registered nearly 2000 new cardholders, and our foot traffic has rebounded well.

This position is a member of the McArthur Library Management Team (reporting to the Library Director), and the individual supervises a team of 3 full-time staff, 1 part-time staff member, and several part-time substitute staff. The full-time staff includes a Cataloging Librarian, a Team Lead (Programming for Youth), and a Team Lead (Outreach). This position also provides direct reference and reader's advisory services to patrons in regular/frequent shifts in our Children's Room. The position including rotating evenings and Saturdays.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding customer service skills, a natural affinity with our young patrons, a great sense of humor, boundless energy and ambition, be detail-oriented, tech savvy, and able to work in a busy, fast-paced environment.

MLS Degree Preferred and experience in a library within a children's services setting is required.

Previous experience in collection development for youth, as well as supervising a team (of paid staff members) within a library (or very similar setting) are absolute requirements for this position. Applications without this experience will not be considered.

This full-time non-exempt position includes vacation/sick day benefits and excellent health coverage (90% employer-contributed), membership in an EAP program, and retirement savings plan contribution.
