Archivist / Reference Librarian, Sandwich Public Library (Sandwich)
Sandwich Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic librarian with archival and reference experience to join us on the Cape! This position will work primarily in the Town Archives (located in the Library) and work shifts in our Reference Department. In addition to assisting patrons with their research, reference, local history and genealogical needs, a primary focus for this position will include the digitization of several archival collections.
Sandwich, the oldest town on Cape Cod, is a vibrant community of just over 20,000 with many wonderful and supportive patrons. The recently renovated Library plays an important role in the community. This is a full-time, 35 hour per week, union position with excellent benefits. Regular schedule will include evening hours until 8:30pm, alternating Saturdays from 9am-4pm, and the occasional Sunday from 12-4pm.
Responsibilities for this position include:
• Managing the collections in the Sandwich Town Archives (a department of the Sandwich Public Library) and coordinating access to and preservation of the materials.
• Working regular shifts at the Reference Desk. Performing a wide variety of reference services assisting patrons with their research needs. Assisting patrons with public computers, printers and scanners, and digital resources including library apps, catalog, and databases.
• Working with the Library Director to develop priorities and plans for digitizing collections, including databases for digital content management and online exhibits.
• Creating finding aids which meet known archival processing standards. Seeking and appraising donations and purchases of historical and research material. Catalog and deaccession materials.
Qualifications
At least three (3) years of professional experience in a public library. Reference experience preferred with a focus on archives and local history.
