Bookmobile Driver/Library Assistant II (Part-Time), Fall River Public Library (Fall River)

The person in this part-time position will both drive the library's Bookmobile and assist library patrons using the Bookmobile. They may also be called on to work in the main library at times if the Bookmobile is not in use. 

Required Knowledge and Skill: 

--Ability to safely operate and maneuver a large vehicle under varying weather conditions (valid driver's license required, but a CDL/special license is not required.) 

--Ability to communicate effectively, to learn standard library tasks, to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff and the public, and to exercise good judgment.

Duties:

--Perform daily inspections before and after scheduled shift
--Fills the fuel tank at designated locations
--Operates vehicle wheelchair lift for customers unable to use the vehicle stairs
--Assist with circulation duties and perform other duties as needed
--Greet Bookmobile patrons, including children, teens, and seniors, and may wait on people while librarian is conducting programs.
--Provide pleasant, professional customer service at Bookmobile stops and outreach events
--Keep the Bookmobile clean and orderly
--Advise Bookmobile Section Head of unsafe conditions of any kind
--Properly handle confidential patron information
--Parallel park along the sidewalk, ensuring that there is no space between the curb and the bookmobile steps. Make it easy and safe to access. Never allow the door to open towards a road or high traffic area.
--Place any signage in a place that is visible from multiple directions if possible that the Bookmobile is open.
--Always lock the bookmobile when leaving it unattended.

Qualifications

Required: 

--Valid driver's license
--Associate’s Degree or two years of a four-year accredited degree program required
--Must also have library (or related) experience

Preferred: 
--General familiarity with computers; knowledge of computer applications pertaining to library operations preferred.

The Administrator of Library Services reserves the right to consider other qualifications and abilities of applicants for this position and to waive any requirements as long as such waiver is in the best interest of the City of Fall River.

$17.31 - $18.80  / 104 North Main Street

Salary Notes

$17.31 starting rate will be changed to $18.80/hour effective November 1
