The Board of Trustees of the Petersham Memorial Library is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Library Director. Petersham Memorial Library is a privately endowed library for the public and plays a central and vital role in the community.

Qualifications

Professional Qualifications:

General knowledge and experience with library principles and practices. Minimum educational qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and MBLC Basic Library Techniques completion within five years of employment.


Responsibilities: 

Work collaboratively with the Board, advising and participating in policy development and planning, as well as reporting regularly on matters concerning staff and buildings and grounds.
Supervise library services, operations, activities, material selections, weeding, and collection development.
Select, train, assist, supervise, and evaluate personnel.
Manage budget: prepare an annual budget for approval by the Board of Trustees; supervise and regularly report on the expenditure of  library funds.


Skills required:

Leadership, motivation, and a vision for the needs of a rural population. 
Independence: the director works under the general direction of the Board of Trustees, but exercises significant independence.
Serve as the library’s liaison with the community and speak before groups and boards as needed. Communicate library information effectively in writing, including the ARIS Report, State Aid Report, annual Petersham Town Report, and newsletters and local newspaper articles.
Competence with technology and social media. Assist staff and patrons with technologies.
