This is a part-time position at 19 hours per week (T, W, Th 3:15P-8:15P, SAT 11A-3P). The position is part of the KTEU Clerical Union (Grade 2).
Essential Functions:

Charges and discharges books and materials at the circulation desk; registers new patrons; answers telephone;
handles requests for reserves and interlibrary loans; prepares overdue notices; keeps daily, monthly and yearly
circulation records for professional and town reports.
Provides basic reference assistance to library patrons; assists children and students with assignments and in
finding materials.
Assists in the processing of materials for shelving; may maintain records of acquisitions and circulation statistics;
processes new books; checks invoice, pulls order cards; types book pocket, card spine label and shelf card;
replaces books on shelves according to categories; notifies Library Director of lost and damaged books and
recommends replacement.
Catalogs and enters new materials onto the library database.
Assists the Director with record keeping and processing of invoices, receipts and statistics.
Assists in the training of new employees and volunteers; assists in organizing volunteers, and supervises
volunteers in performing any functions to aid the library staff.
Performs Reader’s Advisory services
Makes recommendations for acquisitions; becomes familiar with new acquisitions and library collection; reads
both professional literature and titles featured in fiction, nonfiction, and children’s areas of library.
Checks and investigates overdue materials, sending post cards, letters, bills and making phone calls as necessary;
assigns fines; performs miscellaneous typing and filing; shelves library materials; reads shelves and maintains
collection in proper order; uses photocopier.
Maintains library equipment and facility; assists with the security of the library; keeps department in order.
Arranges displays and special collections; plans signs and posters to make the library more accessible to the
public; attends staff meetings and assists with special projects.
Attends classes and workshops related to library responsibilities.
Performs similar or related work as required or as situation dictates.
Paraprofessional, clerical and direct service work relating to the daily operations of the Kingston Public Library;
all other work as required.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; coursework in library science preferred; two years of related responsible experience in a library, educational or office setting; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
