Local History Database Cataloger, Methuen Historical Commission (Methuen)

One Year Position/Full-time.  The Methuen Historical Commission seeks a detail-oriented at self-motivated Database Cataloger to organize its digital history collection.  This is a grant-funded position.  The Local History Database Cataloger will be responsible for creating and maintaining metadata records for a wide range of digital resources, including photographs, documents, maps, and public records.  The Database Cataloger will apply the Dublin Core standard to ensure consistency and enhance the discoverability of our collection which will be mounted on a Digital History website using Omeka S software. 

Key Responsibilities:

* Create new metadata records for a variety of digital resources, applying Dublin Core standard

*Ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of all metadata records, paying close attention to detail

*Work collaboratively with the project manager and other volunteer staff to implement and maintain metadate creation workflows and standards

*Perform data entry into our database and conduct quality control checks

* Assist with digitization projects by preparing and organizing files for metadata application

* Primarily able to work-from home, with occasional on-site work at the Nevins Library/Methuen, MA

Qualifications

·        Demonstrated experience or coursework in library science, archival studies, information management, or a related       field.

·        Familiarity with metadata schemas, specifically Dublin Core.

·        Familiarity with Omeka S software is a plus

·        Strong interest in local history and the preservation of cultural heritage.

·        Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

·        Ability to learn new software and follow specific procedures efficiently.

·        Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.

·        Proficiency with standard office software, such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
