Circulation Supervisor, Norfolk Public Library (Norfolk)
Under the general direction of the Library Director, the Circulation Supervisor is responsible for the overall management of the work performed at the circulation desk. The position requires supervisory and time management skills, leadership ability, a high degree of motivation, independent judgment, and independent action. The Circulation Supervisor must be able to deal tactfully with both staff and library users in an effort to maintain good public relations with our users and a harmonious work environment. Attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and a community service mindset are a plus.
Responsibilities
Performs specialized tasks related to the circulation of library materials including evaluation and billing for damaged items, registering of patrons for library cards, answering patron inquiries in person and on the phone, and handling money for fines, fees, or other services. Computer skills are required, including the library automation system (SIRSI preferred). The Circulation Supervisor will need to become fluent in multiple loan platforms (Workflows and Assabet). Strong written and oral communication skills are a must for this front- facing role.
The Circulation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the work of 7 part-time circulation associates and 19 volunteers, providing training, coaching, and scheduling. This role also requires acting as a liaison between the SAILS Library Network and other libraries for varying circulation issues that arise. The Circulation Supervisor will be part of a collaborative and positive-thinking team, working with all other library departments.
Schedule
This is a permanent part-time union position consisting of 25 hours a week, including one evening per week and one Saturday per month.
Qualifications
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a public library, including supervisory experience.
