Associate Librarian- Youth Services, Milford Town Library (Milford)
The Milford Town Library Youth Services Department is accepting applications for the 19-hour-per-week position of Associate Librarian. From late August to early June, this position will play a critical role in supporting our middle school patrons during the after school hours. With our local middle school directly across the street we welcome a number of youths in grades 6-8 through the doors after school every day. We pride ourselves on providing a safe and enriching environment where they can build positive relationships with the staff and with each other. In the summer this position will pivot to assisting in the preparation and implementation of the Summer Reading Program. This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to gain experience in all facets of the youth services realm.
We have a vibrant community in Milford with a number of Portuguese and Spanish speaking youths/ families, so those fluent in Portuguese or Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with middle-schoolers to help guide them in making sound choices and building their social emotional awareness. A high level of patience and understanding of adolescent behavior as well as the ability to keep a clear head in a fast moving environment is a must.
Due to the nature of this position the school year hours (late August to early June) are set at the following schedule: Monday 2p-6:30p, Tuesday 2p-6:30p, Wednesday 2p-7:30p, Thursday 2p-6:30p. Summer schedule can be discussed based on availability and library needs.
Qualifications
High School or GED required, Associates Degree preferred. Also required, at least 2 years experience working directly with school age youth, experience working with youth in grades 6-8 preferred. Bilingual (Spanish, Portuguese) abilities are highly desirable. Familiarity and experience in areas of conflict management, proactive intervention, and behavior management are a plus!
