Student Success Librarian, Bridgewater State University (Bridgewater)

The Maxwell Library at Bridgewater State University seeks an innovative and student-centered librarian to join our team as Head of Library Instruction and Student Success Librarian. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in library literacy for our student body. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to enhance library services and resources that promote student learning and achievement.

This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangements. The schedule must be approved by the Dean of the Library.

Reference and Research Assistance:
1. Provide expert reference and research assistance to students, faculty, and staff through in-person consultations, virtual reference services, and workshops.
2. Provide guidance and support to students in navigating academic resources
(locating, evaluating, and citing scholarly resources), using citation management tools and online databases, and by teaching library research methodologies across various disciplines.

Information Literacy Advocacy:
1. Develop and deliver information literacy instruction sessions tailored to the needs of undergraduate and graduate students, both in-person and online.
2. Develop and maintain online research guides and other resources to support
student success.
3. Working with your librarian colleagues, collaborate with faculty to integrate
information literacy concepts and skills into the curriculum, fostering students’
critical thinking and research abilities.
4. Collaborate with campus partners to develop and implement initiatives that
support student retention, persistence, and graduation.

Collaboration, Outreach and Engagement:
1. Work with the Library’s Marketing and Social Media Committees to collaborate with campus stakeholders, including faculty, administrators, and student organizations, to promote library resources and services and enhance the university’s academic mission.
2. Engage with campus communities to promote library resources, services, andinitiatives. oactively engage with students through outreach activities, such as orientations, library tours, and outreach events, to promote library services and resources.
4. Develop and maintain partnerships with academic departments, student affairs offices, and other campus units to support student learning and research.

Collection Development and Management:
1. Collaborate with other librarians to assess and develop the library’s collection in alignment with curricular needs and student research interests.
2. Stay current with emerging trends in scholarly communication, open educational resources (OER), and digital initiatives to help educate students.

Assessment and Data Analysis: Conduct assessment activities to measure the
effectiveness of library instruction and public services programs, using data to inform decision-making and improve services.

Professional Development and Scholarship:
1. Stay current with trends and best practices in academic librarianship, information literacy, instructional design, and student success.
2. Contribute to the profession through scholarly activities and participation in
professional organizations.
3. Pursue opportunities for professional development to enhance skills and
knowledge relevant to the position.

Qualifications

Required:

• Master’s degree in library science or information science from an ALA-accredited program.
• Strong commitment to student-centered service and the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Demonstrated knowledge of information literacy instruction principles and practices.
• Familiarity with current trends and best practices in student success initiatives, retention strategies, and educational technology.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment and build effective partnerships across campus.
• Familiarity with emerging technologies and their applications in library instruction and public services.
• Proficiency in using library technologies, integrated library systems, and online research databases.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Preferred:

• Second master’s degree. (Required for promotion beyond rank of Associate Librarian rank.)
• Experience working in a higher education environment, preferably in a university library setting. (Academic or research library experience is required for any appointment at the rank of Associate Librarian or above.)
• Minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably in academic library instruction.
• Experience with instructional design principles and learning management systems.
• Knowledge of trends and best practices in student success initiatives and academic support services.
• Experience with assessment and data analysis techniques to evaluate library services and programs.
• Ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic, evolving library and campus environment.
• Ability to think strategically, set priorities, and manage responsibilities independently.
