Children's Librarian, Robbins Library (Arlington)

We’re seeking a creative, energetic, and enthusiastic individual to join our outstanding professionals in the Children’s Services Department.
Duties and Responsibilities for this position include:
Planning and executing story times and special programs such as book clubs, STEAM programs, etc. for infants to sixth-graders, and occasionally for their teachers and parents.
Assisting in the development of traditional and non-traditional library collections.
Creating promotional materials to support programs and collections.
Providing reference and reader’s advisory service to children, their parents and teachers, and other adults working with children at the Robbins Library.
Using the integrated library system (Sierra) and Discovery Platform (Aspen) to locate materials for patrons within the Minuteman Library Network.
Initiating requests for the purchase of library materials for children based on knowledge of community needs, review of professional journals and children’s literature and the library’s collection development policy.
Making cataloging decisions before sending materials to Technical Services.
Assisting the Head of Children’s Services with a wide variety of professional duties including liaison work with the public schools; preparation of promotional materials; updates to the library website; seasonal decoration of the children’s library; creation of informational signs, posters and displays; preparation of graded book lists and subject bibliographies for all ages of children.
Responding to library user’s requests, suggestions and complaints. Refer to the Head of Children’s Services as needed.
Maintaining records of activities and prepare monthly reports for supervisor concerning programs and services.
Keeping abreast of developments in children’s programming; attend meetings of children’s librarians and professional organizations for sharing of information and cooperative programming.
Performing other related duties as required.
Qualifications
MLS Degree from an ALA accredited and recognized school with specific course work or concentration in children’s programming and literature, plus one or more years of directly related experience working with children OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
