Candidate:
The Youth Services department at the Nashua Public Library is seeking a creative, community-minded, proactive librarian to join our seven-person team. The ideal person will be committed to providing outstanding service to marginalized communities, passionate about collection development, and enthusiastic about planning community responsive programs. The team prioritizes innovation and collaboration to best serve youth and their families.
Responsibilities:
Full-time 40-hour position in a public library includes at least one evening and weekends in rotation. Provides direct service to customers at public service desks with a focus on youth services. Participates in print and digital collection development. Plans and implements timely and innovative programs for youth, caregivers and families. Promotes and implements core values of the Family Place Libraries initiative. Serves as liaison to staff at local organizations and schools serving birth through elementary school. Develops community partnerships that support the library’s strategic goals. Plans and participates in community engagement activities with schools and community-based organizations. Creates a welcoming space for youth and families. Duties may also include special assignments and projects related to the work of the department.
Qualifications
Minimum of Master’s Degree from an ALA accredited institution and 2 years public library experience OR BS/BA and 3-5 years related experience in a public library setting.
Ability to work as part of a team in a busy public library and interact with a diverse public in a welcoming and respectful way.
Thorough understanding of infant and child development and advance knowledge of library services to children and their caregivers.
Experience working with infants and children.
A strong knowledge of children’s literature.
Proficiency and experience with MS applications and demonstrated ability and interest in using computers, Internet, mobile and emerging technologies as it relates to resources for services for youth and caregivers.
Fluency in a second language is a plus.
