Supervisor of Reference Services, Westfield Athenaeum (Westfield)
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Supervisor of Reference Services is responsible for coordinating and administering all programming, activities, and functions in the Reference Department. This position requires the understanding of contemporary library operations and an understanding of reference services in a fast-paced public library. This position also requires the occupant to possess a thorough understanding of the public's informational needs, the ability to manage a large staff performing a variety of library functions, and leadership skills necessary to guide the institution into the future.
The primary duties include overseeing all operations in the Reference Department, working with the Director in establishing library policies, planning and organizing all activities of the department, and providing direction and training. Other duties include serving on the reference desk, providing reader's advisory information, establishing long-term goals, implementing new programs and services, providing monthly statistics, and assistance in preparing the ARIS report.
Qualifications
A Masters Degree in Library and Information Science is highly desired. At least three years of experience working in a public library is highly desired. Experience with current information technology, the ability to teach library technology to the staff as needed, excellent written and oral communication skills, a knowledge of adult fiction and nonfiction, and the ability to work some nights and weekends are required.
