Teen Librarian, Westfield Athenaeum (Westfield)
Reporting to the Supervisor of Youth Services, the Teen Librarian is responsible for providing library services and programming for young adults (typically ages 12 to 18), develops and maintains the young adult collection, and provides a variety of library services for teens. The Teen Librarian position is a full-time position with day, evening, and weekend hours. This position also works with other members of the Youth Services Department, has regular shifts on the Youth Services desk, and performs other functions as needed.
In this role the Teen Librarian develops, promotes, and implements appealing programs and activities that will engage teen patrons, and reviews and purchases YA library materials. This position also provides circulation and reference services to teens, children, parents, and teachers. Other duties include: weeding YA collections following established professional procedures, attending and participating in professional activities, training programs, and informational meetings, and facilitating tours and programs for middle and high school students.
Qualifications
A Masters Degree in Library and Information Science is preferred, but not required. One to three years of experience working in a Youth Services Department is preferred. The position also requires customer service experience, strong interpersonal and communications skills, a knowledge of YA literature, a general knowledge of computers, and the ability to work as part of a team and independently.
