Library Page, Flint Memorial Library (North Reading)
The Library Page is responsible for providing a variety of routine library functions, such as emptying book drops, shelving books, shifting collections, maintaining files, special project support and related work as required by Department Heads.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
▪ Empties book drops and book carts.
▪ Pulls items for inter-library loan requests.
▪ Shelves library materials in all formats; files and retrieves books, DVDs, magazines, etc.
▪ Maintains library collections in a neat, orderly and accessible condition; regularly fronting,
cleaning and dusting shelves.
▪ Helps with weeding, shifting and re-labeling projects.
▪ Provides courteous minimal assistance to library patrons if approached, directing them to
library staff or collections as appropriate.
▪ Performs other related duties of a similar nature and complexity as required.
▪ Performs varied clerical duties in accordance with prescribed procedures, which require
attention to detail and a thorough knowledge of current library practices.
▪ Reports to Head of Circulation
This position is a part-time union position with accrued sick and vacation time. Schedule is Monday-Friday mornings, three (3) hours per day, fifteen (15) hours per week.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Basic computer knowledge required. Previous library experience preferred.
Constant light to moderate physical activity required to perform duties. Must be able to walk and/or stand for long periods of time, placing materials on shelves of varying heights (frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, or reaching to do so). Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs. and push/pull at least 50 lbs (book carts). Must be able to use office machines (printers, scanners, computers, etc.)
