Library Technician, Backstage Library Works (Northampton)
This temporary position will include a variety of tasks, including doing an inventory of a periodical collection, traying rare books and shifting storage boxes.
This position requires attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work efficiently in a physical, hands-on environment.
Schedule & Compensation
The project is estimated to begin on January 26th, 2026 and to last for 9-11 weeks.
Primary Responsibilities
Two Library Technicians will work under the supervision of a Project Manager to inventory a collection of feminist periodicals. This will include noting the title, publisher and volume information on a spreadsheet. Technicians will also be responsible for creating book trays and placing rare books in them for safe storage. They will also be required to shift storage boxes from one set of shelves to another.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications & Skills
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience working in a library or archival environment.
Experience working with spreadsheets.
A high attention to detail.
Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently.
Reliable transportation.
The ability to lift up 50 lbs throughout the day.
The ability to communicate in a professional and timely manner.
Strong organizational skills.
Preferred Additional Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience in a related field.
Functional knowledge of the Library of Congress or Dewey Decimal classification systems.
Experience working with fragile books, periodicals or newspapers.
