Library Technician, Whitman Public Library (Whitman)

The Whitman Public Library is seeking an experienced Library Technician to assist library staff with a range of special projects in the Youth Services Department. This position is an excellent opportunity for a library professional eager to share their expertise and contribute to the development of efficient youth services operations.

The Whitman Public Library is a small public library in a welcoming community approximately 40 minutes south of Boston. We welcome enthusiastic and friendly candidates to apply for the position of Library Technician. Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Youth Services Assistant will perform a variety of tasks. Primary tasks include:

-Providing expert assistance to children and their caregivers with locating and using materials
and resources in the Youth Services Room
-Overseeing the use of the Youth Services Room in compliance with established policies and procedures
-Locate and shelve children’s materials and develop vibrant displays
-Developing and conducting programs, including storytimes and crafts, for children and their caregivers
-Participating in the maintenance of the collection and special projects as assigned by the Youth Services Librarian
-Process children’s items in preparation for cataloging. 
-Assist with circulation duties/general library services at the Circulation Desk and other duties as assigned. 
The ideal candidate must be comfortable working directly with the public. The ability to multitask and a willingness to perform hands-on library work is essential to the position. The candidate must be a committed team player with a positive, can-do attitude who works well with other staff members.

This is a part-time, 12-16 hour-per-week position. Additional hours may be required from time to time. The schedule is as follows:

Tuesday and Wednesday: 4 PM – 8 PM

Friday and Saturday: 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM 

The Library is only open Saturdays during the school year (September-June).

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent with an additional one to two years of previous experience working in a library environment preferred or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
