General Assistant, Woburn Public Library (Woburn)

The Woburn Public Library seeks a part-time general assistant.   Duties include but are not limited to: assisting patrons in both the Youth Services and adult areas, providing reader’s advisory services, checking materials in and out, registering new patrons, shelving materials, assisting with programs and activities.

The schedule for this position includes two evenings per week all year and every Saturday from September to June. The library is closed on Saturdays during the summer.

We currently are housed in a temporary space at 36 Cummings Park in Woburn while our permanent library, a national historic landmark built in 1879, is renovated and expanded. The new library is scheduled to open in March 2019. The new library houses a spacious Children’s Library and the Woburn Public Library’s first Teen Room. This is an exciting time of transition that offers opportunities for new initiatives and innovative services.


       Proven customer service skills with ability to work well with the public and other employees.

       Previous experience working with children and teens is preferred.

       Some familiarity with children’s literature. 

       Dependable with excellent attendance demonstrated in previous work experience.

       Experience in the MLN system preferred.

       Must be able to stand for several hours, move loaded book carts, and reach shelves with or without ladders/stools.

$19.06-21.23 per hour, commensurate with experience. Pro rated vacation and sick leave.
