Library Associate-Children's/Circulation, Duxbury Free Library (Duxbury)

JOB TITLE: Library Associate-Children’s/Circulation
DEPARTMENT: Duxbury Free Library
REPORTS TO: Library Director and Library Division Heads
CONTRACT: Duxbury Free Library Employees, SEIU Local 888
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt – Benefit eligible
RATE RANGE: Starts at $18.78 per hour
WORK SCHEDULE: 35 hours per week, Variable hours, days and evenings, to include some weekends

Nature of Work: The purpose of this position is to provide paraprofessional support to professional library staff through the performance of varied duties and tasks. Performs professional level duties requiring a thorough knowledge of library procedures, library organization, and department operations. Must exercise judgment and initiative to perform duties; must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

1. Uses both the staff and public online library systems to provide circulation, bibliographic, and/or patron advisory services. 2. Attends library and department meetings. 3. Information must be presented appropriately and communicated factually. 4. Works under direct supervision of the appropriate department head to provide library services; duties are designated by the department head. 5. Duties may include but are not limited to:

Circulation Department: 1.Working at the circulation desk and circulating materials using the automated system. 2. Communicating library policies and procedures to patrons. 3. Answering telephone calls, managing relevant ones, and referring others to appropriate staff. 4. Registering patrons, collecting fines and fees. 5. Providing directional and general readers advisory information to patrons. 6. Assisting in physical collection care such as re-shelving, arranging, and weeding as directed. 7. Assisting the department head in department planning. 8. Performs related duties or special projects as required or directed.

Children’s Department: 1.Working at the children’s services desk. 2. Communicating library policies and procedures to patrons. 3. Answering telephone calls, managing relevant ones, and referring others to appropriate staff. 4. Registering patrons. 5. Providing reference and reader advisory information to patrons. 6. Assisting in collection care or collection development as directed. 7. Developing children’s programs, displays and web page maintenance. 8. Assisting department head in department planning.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree preferred, related education and experience considered.
