The East Brookfield Library seeks candidates to fill a part-time Library Assistant position.
This is a public facing position at our circulation desk which also, reshelves materials, pulls ILL’s, and does other duties as assigned by the Library Director. Candidates must be available to work on Saturdays 9:00-1:00 other substitute hours will not exceed 19 per week.
Primary responsibilities:
• Direct patron service in person, via telephone, to patrons of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
• Demonstrating to patrons how to use self-service options including using their online library account, library apps, printing, downloading e-books & e-audiobooks, and other library resources.
The work is detail orientated. Job involves standing, walking, we do have a ramp if you are unable to walk steps. Other responsibilities may be assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• Experience in providing excellent customer service.
• Excellent with personal computers including Microsoft Office, online searching, Internet/browsers including Chrome, email, printers, smartphones, telephones, and copy machines.
• Detail oriented with an ability to use learn and use the Dewey Decimal Classification.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 15 pounds, stand for up to 3 hours, repeatedly bend and stoop to reach shelves, and work under very noisy conditions for up to 1 hour (during our children’s programs).
• Must be available to work Saturday 9 to 1.
• Ability to pass a criminal records (CORI).
• High School Diploma or equivalency, those without are still welcomed to apply and will be screened for the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous working or volunteer experience in a public.
• Experience with Evergreen ILS and/or the CWMARS online public access catalog, or the ability to learn it and capable of taking notes if needed to learn the system.
• Experience with downloadable and streaming media, apps, and e-reader devices.
• Current public library patron and supporter.
• Experience with arts & crafts, marketing, event planning, or social media.
