Systems and Technology Librarian, Bridgewater State University (Bridgewater)

The Maxwell Library at Bridgewater State University seeks an innovative, service-oriented Systems and Technology Librarian to develop, manage, document, and troubleshoot the library’s web site and core library systems. This is a Systems and Technology Librarian position, and the incumbent will be responsible for administering, implementing, and maintaining all library systems. In close collaboration with the e-Resources Librarian, Collection Development & Metadata Librarian, and the Head of Archives & Special Collections, the incumbent will maintain library systems and applications using a broad range of technologies. The Systems and Technology Librarian will also collaborate with other librarians and partners from across BSU to research and implement practical, usable technology solutions to support the work of the students, faculty, librarians, staff and the broader BSU community.


The Systems and Technology Librarian will be primarily responsible for management of Koha (Integrated Library System), the Maxwell Library website (which is set for a complete redesign in the upcoming months), Springshare’s LibApps suite of software, and the ILLiad Interlibrary Loan system, as well as any new applications the library may adopt or develop. The incumbent will also collaborate as required to maintain systems and applications that the e-Resources Librarian, Collection Development & Metadata Librarian, and the Head of Archives & Special Collections employ. The salary range is $75,000 to $85,000, dependent upon experience and education.


The Systems and Technology Librarian reports directly to the Dean of the Library. The incumbent will serve as a library subject specialist in selected disciplines. Participation in professional organizations, service in library and university governance, and appropriate professional development activities are expected and required for tenure. In addition, the Systems and Technology Librarian may supervise Library Assistants, Graduate Assistants, and student workers.


Please note: This position is eligible for hybrid remote/on-campus work options.

The Systems and Technology Librarian will:


-Administer and maintain the library’s core systems, including Koha ILS, the library website, Springshare LibApps, and ILLiad interlibrary loan application.      -Ensure that systems remain available and interoperable.
-Collaborate with librarians and staff as necessary to support and troubleshoot other library applications and investigate and implement new and emerging technologies in consultation with librarians and the library dean.
-Work closely with the library staff and vendors on a full redesign of the Maxwell Library’s website.
-Provide technical expertise, day-to-day administration, and broad support for traditional and emerging library hardware and software solutions and standards. Research and recommend technologies to support evolving library reference, instruction, and access services models.
-Provide library systems support to library colleagues. Understand and respond to library systems-related needs across library units.
-Collaborate with the IT department as needed to ensure compliance with institutional IT policies and security standards, while independently managing and resolving all library-specific IT issues.
-Serve as a point of contact for library systems and emerging technology vendors.
-Provide written reports, assessments, analyses, and documentation as needed and upon request.
-Provide individual and collective assistance to students, faculty, and the academic community regarding the use of library facilities.
-Advise, train, and teach staff, faculty, and students in emerging library technologies.
-Work with, and where applicable, give direction to other members of the library staff.
-Participate in orientation programs and information literacy efforts (whether by teaching, preparing instructional materials, or membership on workgroups  or committees that address information literacy.
-Assist with faculty research by providing guidance or instruction in the discovery and use of relevant library resources.
-Serve as a liaison to academic departments.
-Attend university functions such as annual faculty meeting, convocations, and commencement.
-Engage in professional activities, continuing scholarship, and serve on University-wide committees, to satisfy promotion and tenure requirements of the Massachusetts State College Association (MSCA) contract.
-Participate in library consortia and cooperatives.
-Join other librarians as a subject specialist and resource selector in support of academic departments.
 

Academic rank at hire will be determined by the candidate’s qualifications and MSCA contract specifications.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution.
Relevant experience in an academic, large public, or special library.
Familiarity with library operations, procedures, and best practices.
Demonstrated experience using a wide variety of integrated library system platforms and applications, and current library-related hardware and software.
Understanding of library security and authentication systems and practices.
Understanding of networking, including cloud-based server technology.
Web application programming experience, including but not limited to HTML, XML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Familiarity with database reporting standards.
Ability to work independently and effectively in a team setting.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of EZProxy or another access authentication software.
Experience with the Koha ILS and Springshare’s LibApps.
Second master’s degree in a related discipline (second master’s degree required for promotion beyond Associate Librarian rank).
Two years’ experience in an academic library setting.
Demonstrated ability to support an inclusive educational and work environment, working effectively with a diverse faculty and student population.
Experience with website design and various hosting platforms such as WordPress or Drupal.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
