Librarian I, Youth Services, Seekonk Public Library (Seekonk)

Are you passionate about fostering a love of reading and learning in young people? Due to an internal promotion, Seekonk Public Library is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Youth Services Librarian I to join our team. This role is ideal for a beginning librarian eager to contribute to a welcoming and engaging environment for children and teens in our community.

What You’ll Do:

As a Librarian I, you will provide professional library services and assistance directly to patrons of all ages, with a primary focus on youth. Your responsibilities will include:

Patron Services: Providing professional assistance in reference and general inquiries to patrons.
Collection Development: Participating in the selection and maintenance of materials for the youth collection.
Program Development: Planning, promoting, and conducting engaging programs for children and young adults.
Library Instruction: Offering guidance and support in library resources and technology.
Technology Support: Assisting patrons with various technology-related questions and tools.
Needs Assessment: Evaluating user needs and designing appropriate programs and services to address them.
Administrative Tasks: Monitoring expenditures, collecting relevant data, evaluating program performance, and preparing reports for programs and services within your assigned areas.
Team Collaboration: Coordinating activities with the Librarian II in your section and reporting directly to the Associate Director.
Flexibility: Occasionally performing other duties outside your assigned areas as needed to ensure effective library operation.
 

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

Education: A Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program.
Experience: At least six months of work experience in a public library providing direct service to patrons. Relevant experience may include time spent as a professionally supervised library school student, library intern, or volunteer delivering library services to patrons.

Work Schedule and Compensation:

Hours: This is a full-time, non-exempt position, for thirty-five (35) hours per week. 
The schedule requires working two evening shifts (Wednesday & Thursday 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM) and alternating Fridays and Saturdays (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM).
Salary: The starting rate is $30.95 per hour, with increases to follow in three annual steps.
This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement between the Town of Seekonk and the Seekonk Public Library Employees Association, MLSA, AFT Mass.
Employment Contingency: Employment offers are contingent on passing a physical examination and a criminal background check (CORI).
