Circulation Librarian, Brooks Free Library (Harwich)
Brooks Free Library is looking for an experienced librarian to join our team as a Circulation Librarian. In addition to managing Circulation operations and supervising Circulation staff members, this position has collection development responsibility for adult fiction and other areas of the collection, and programming and community outreach responsibilities. This a full-time position (35 hours per week) with benefits such as health insurance, vacation and sick leave. Brooks Free Library is a department of the Town of Harwich, so this position is included in the Barnstable County Retirement System. This is a fully in-person position, not a remote work position.
Other information for applicants: Applicants from outside of the commuting area should be aware that Cape Cod has a severe housing shortage. Few homes are for sale below $700,000 and there is strong competition for the small number of rental units. A commute from off-Cape is possible but would take up to an hour from the closest communities in southeastern Mass. in optimum conditions, longer when heavy traffic causes delays on the two bridges onto the Cape.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an American Library Association accredited institution; 2 to 3 years’ experience as a professional librarian required to independently perform the full range of duties and responsibilities with the independence expected of a seasoned professional; 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience to perform the essential functions of the position, with the requirement that the incumbent completes an MLIS within three (3) years of the hire date.
