Youth Services Assistant, Centerville Public Library (Barnstable)
The Centerville Public Library is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic professional for the part-time position of Youth Services Assistant. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with children and will bring a warm, energetic, and creative approach to service. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are essential. Previous experience in a library or similar setting is preferred.
Qualifications
This part-time position requires previous experience working with children, along with friendly and respectful communication skills. The ideal candidate will be comfortable leading a weekly storytime and helping facilitate off-site, community-based programs. A self-motivated and team-oriented attitude is essential, as is the ability to solve problems independently and creatively. Candidates should have a general knowledge and appreciation of children’s and young adult literature, and be comfortable assisting patrons of all ages and abilities in finding materials. Responsibilities also include confidently enforcing safety policies, maintaining the organization of the children’s room, sorting and storing manipulatives, and demonstrating a willingness to assist wherever needed. A strong commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of all patron information is required. The position may involve working at the front circulation desk and performing other duties as assigned by the Director.

Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 30 pounds, get up and down off the floor with ease to shelve materials and engage with young children, and stand and walk for extended periods.
Regular hours are Monday and Tuesday from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Wednesday from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with occasional additional shifts, including evenings and/or Saturdays.
Note: A clear CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check is required to work in Youth Services at Centerville Public Library.
