Senior Library Assistant - Adult Services, Brockton Public Library (Brockton)
The Senior Library Assistant in the Adult Services department provides a range of support to adult library patrons. Duties primarily include assisting with reference inquiries via phone or in- person, helping patrons using public computer resources, printing, scanning, faxing, and microfilm technology. The Senior Library Assistant actively contributes to a welcoming and informative environment for all patrons.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists librarian in providing reference and reader's advisory services to patrons.
Trains and supervises department personnel in supervisor's absence.
Accepts and/or processes inter-library loan requests.
Assists librarian with Project Outreach.
Assists patrons using computer resources.
Assists patron with microfilm reader/printer and troubleshoots for microfilm reader/printer.
Inputs data into OCLN database.
Answers telephone inquiries.
Shelf reads collection.
Creates book displays, bulletin boards and other promotional material.
Participates in workshop and training opportunities.
Performs other duties as assigned by a designated library supervisor.
Qualifications
High School Diploma required; some college preferred.
Ability to assist in training and supervising assigned employees and/or volunteers.
Working knowledge of computers and the Internet required.
Knowledge of reference resources and popular fiction preferred.
Experience as a library assistant required.
Ability to relate to patrons and staff with professional friendliness, patience, tact and resourcefulness.
Demonstrates commitment to working with diverse populations and furthering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
