Library Director, Sutton Free Public Library (Sutton)
The Town of Sutton is seeking a creative, energetic individual to oversee a small library in a town of about 9,400 people in central Massachusetts. The Library Director is responsible for managing, operating, and leading all programs and services of the library in accordance with the policies established by the Trustees. Our ideal candidate will have a vision to bring our library into the future through collaboration with our Town employees, library staff, community members, and Board of Trustees.
THE DIRECTOR’S RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
· Plan, organize, and manage all aspects of library services, operations, and activities, including material selection, weeding, and overall collection development, cataloging, circulation, reference, reader’s advisory, programs, and other technical library services.
· Manage a staff comprising 2 full-time employees, 4 part-time employees, and 8 on-call staff members.
· Leads initiative as directed by the library’s mission statement and long-range plan.
· Provide leadership to the library staff and foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
· Consult and collaborate with the Trustees to develop and manage policies, goals, strategic planning, and budget. Attend monthly Board meetings.
· Prepare, present, and manage the Library’s annual operating budget which includes expenses, equipment, payroll processing, and accounts payable.
· Prepare grant applications and seek funding for operational and improvement programs.
· Serve as liaison to various town, and community organizations, including schools.
· Support Friends of the Sutton Public Library for programs and fundraising opportunities.
Spearhead outreach opportunities to promote the library in the community
Qualifications
· Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, with 3–5 years of experience in library administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Proven experience in library management, including budgeting, staff supervision, and strategic planning.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with diverse community members.
· Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within library services.
· This is a 35-hour-per-week position with a salary range of $70,000 - $90,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications. The Director is expected to attend evening or weekend programs, events, and meetings as needed.
