Children's Librarian, Watertown Free Public Library (Watertown)
The Watertown Free Public Library is looking for a full-time Children’s Librarian for our busy, mid-sized library. The children’s department is staffed by four full-time librarians that serve children from birth to 12 years along with their caregivers. In a typical week our children’s librarians can expect to lead storytimes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers; answer reader’s advisory and reference questions; create and deliver innovative programming for elementary aged students; develop and maintain a top-rate collection of children’s materials; and collaborate internally within the library and externally with community organizations to provide the highest standard of library service in the region.
This job might be for you if:
• You understand that different children have different needs and you can think on your feet to give each child the type of service that is best for them.
• You thrive in a fast-paced environment that requires confidence, mental agility, and tact.
• You want to work collaboratively with other librarians to provide the best possible service for children, but you are comfortable working independently when necessary.
• You’re comfortable trying new ideas. You want to be a part of advancing children’s services in the Watertown community.
• You are curious and thoroughly informed. You ask questions and use all of the information you have to make good decisions. You have a good grasp on children’s literature and keep current with trends in the field.
• You believe in the mission of libraries. You want a job in public service.
You will be considered for this job if you are a librarian with an MLIS and have strong customer service experience. Your experience can be in a library, a bookstore, a restaurant, etc., but you should be dedicated to providing solid, child-focused service. Working knowledge of Sierra ILS is a plus. We welcome new graduates and seasoned librarians. Those who are bilingual/multilingual librarians or from an immigrant background are strongly encouraged to apply.
