Access Specialist (Less Than Half Time), Harvard Business School Baker Library (Boston)

**This is a Less Than Half Time Position with up to 14 hours per week**

We are looking for someone with excellent customer service skills for proactively welcoming and engaging with patrons to identify and address their needs. Our customer-centric service model provides one service point for our clientele, and all team members are trained to be fully versatile in answering access and information service questions for a variety of customer groups. The individual will contribute to the day-to-day running of the services desk and Stamps Reading Room and performing collections maintenance and resource sharing tasks. This role has hours that vary based on the academic calendar.  

Location

All hours are on site at Harvard Business School, Baker Library, 25 Harvard Way, Boston, MA 02163

Schedule:

14 hours/week

Academic year: Weekdays + evening and weekend hours (THU 3-7pm, FRI Noon-5pm, SUN 1-6pm; exceptions for holidays)

Summer and other breaks in the academic calendar: Weekdays (THU 10am-5pm, FRI 10am-5pm; to be determined)

Hours may change based on departmental needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Open or close the library.

Work collaboratively as a team member to provide access, circulation, directional, technological, and ready-reference assistance in the Stamps Reading Room.

Communicate and apply library policies. 

Support library and collection security measures, and help maintain an orderly, safe, and quiet space for researchers.  

Check book returns and shelve materials. 

Perform collection maintenance, scanning, and resources sharing tasks.

Assist with data entry, clerical duties, and supervising student assistants.

Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands: 

This position involves frequent use of a computer keyboard, mouse, and barcode scanner. 

Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs. 

Must be able to push and maneuver a loaded book truck weighing up to 80lbs. 

Ability to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for long periods of time.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent education or experienced required. 

Strong public service orientation with library or customer service-related experience, preferably with high-touch services.

Additional Requirements: 

Experience with library management systems and service tools such as Ex Libris and Springshare. 

Work in a diverse user and employee environment. 

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers and patrons.

Be flexible and respond positively to fluctuating workflow and change.

Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

Demonstrated experience showing attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. 

Effectively solve problems, exercise good judgment, and make/execute sound decisions.

Perform repetitive tasks with overall accuracy and effectiveness.

Meet deadlines, exercise follow-though, and honor commitments.  

Computer skills that include Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
