Librarian - Youth Services, Franklin Public Library (Franklin)
The Franklin Public Library is currently accepting applications for an enthusiastic
and engaged Assistant Youth Services Librarian to assist in the planning and
delivery of innovative programming and services to Franklin residents.
The Assistant Youth Services Librarian reports to the Youth Services Librarian and
this position helps plan and implement innovative, educational, and entertaining
programs and events for youth of all ages.
The ideal candidate will assist the Youth Services Librarian in a full range of
professional tasks for an engaged community. These tasks include (but are not
limited to) dynamic programming for ages birth through age 18, informed reader’s
advisory, grade appropriate reference, thoughtful collection development, Children’s
and Young Adult cataloging, creating promotional materials, engaging Franklin
families through social media, and outreach in the Franklin community. Energy,
enthusiasm, flexibility and willingness to try new things are crucial!
Experience with STEAM programming and ability to sing, dance and paint are preferred.
Youth Services is a fun and dynamic department, so bring your sense of adventure!
Qualifications
● Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science.
● One year working with children/youth. (Preferred)
● Ability to sing, dance and paint.
● Knowledge of developmental, recreational and educational needs of youth
and families.
● Ability to translate the needs and interests of youth and families into
effective library services and programs.
● Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public at all times.
● Commitment to a collaborative and collegial work environment.
● Flexibility and willingness to try new things and adapt to changing conditions
and work assignments.
● Facility with a variety of standard computer applications and online searching
tools.
● Knowledge of web technologies, current technology trends, and emerging
technologies.
● Excellent oral and written communication skills.
● Demonstrated ability to identify, prepare, submit, and manage grants.
● Commitment to continued professional development, growth and career
development.
