Interim Library Director, Flint Public Library (Middleton)

POSITION: Interim Library Director

SALARY: Expected hiring range $75/hr - $80/hr ($10,500-$11,200/month)
HOURS: 35 hours/week

The Town of Middleton is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Interim Library Director for the Flint Public Library. A mid-November/early December start date is desirable. Seeking a candidate with an MLIS, 5 years of library supervisory experience and experience in day-to-day library operations. Payroll experience is a plus, but not required. The Interim will not be responsible for building the FY 27 operating budget or attending evening Trustees meetings, but may need to be available on week day evenings and the occasional Sunday to support library operations. During this timeframe, there are no significant capital projects ongoing in the building.


The ideal candidate will have a strong background as a Library Director in Massachusetts, with the ability to share their experience with an extraordinarily dedicated and enthusiastic staff. The intent of the interim position is to provide support, guidance and direction to the Flint Public Library and its employees while a search is conducted for the next permanent Director of the Flint Public Library. During this time of transition, the Flint will be well supported by Town Administration, the Board of Library Trustees, the Select Board, the Friends of the Flint, and the community at large.


The Flint Public Library is widely regarded as a town treasure. The mission of the Flint is to inform, enrich, and empower every person in the community by creating and promoting easy access to a vast array of ideas and information, and by supporting an informed citizenry, lifelong learning and love of reading. The Interim Library Director provides leadership for the library system by directing and managing all operations under the policy direction of the Library Board of Trustees and under the administrative direction of the Town Administrator.



The staff consists of 1 Assistant Director; 5 full time librarians; 4 PT circulation assistants; 2 PT pages; and 4 PT custodians. All employees are in the union except for the Director and Assistant Director. The union and Town ratified their first contract in September 2025 during a collaborative a. All 2025 ARIS reporting has been completed and will not be required of the selected candidate.
