ABOUT THE ROLE
Woburn Public Library is seeking a dedicated Technical Services Supervisor to lead the Technical Services team. Under the general direction of the Director and Assistant Director, the Technical Services Supervisor will be responsible for organizing and maintaining the Library’s collection, updating holdings in the Minuteman Library Network database (primarily copy cataloging), managing budgets and vendor relationships, supervising receiving and processing of incoming materials. The Technical Services Supervisor will also serve on public service desks as needed. This is a full-time, benefited position: 37.5 hours/week including one weeknight and alternate Saturdays.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
· Plans and coordinates the activities of the Technical Services Department according to goals established
· Trains and supervises technical services staff in cataloging, database maintenance, and library materials processing
· Schedules the workflow to ensure that materials are ordered, cataloged, and processed in a timely fashion. Monitors, evaluates, and revises workflow as necessary
· Develops and maintains cataloging procedures to facilitate effective and efficient cataloging workflow, quality control, and database management practices
· Oversees and assists in maintaining accuracy of the bibliographic, serial and authority database by generating reports, analyzing and sorting data, and assigning staff to make corrections
· Establishes and maintains communication with all departments in the areas of acquisitions, cataloging, classification, processing, and repair of materials in the Library
· Represents Woburn Public Library in the Minuteman Library Network for all bibliographic functions
· Oversees the use of the Dewey decimal classification and its new editions for proper classification of materials
· Supervises the Library’s preservation activities, including the mending, binding, and replacing of materials in the Library’s general collection
· Participates in departmental, institutional, network and regional professional activities, meetings, and conferences
· Reference desk coverage as needed
· Keeps track of invoicing and budgeting
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
· A master’s degree in library science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution
· Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a librarian, preferably in a public library setting
· Thorough knowledge of library cataloging and subject analysis
· Experience with the Sierra Acquisitions module strongly preferred
