Librarian I - West Acton Citizens' Library, Acton Memorial Library (Acton)

The Town of Acton is seeking a creative, service-oriented Librarian I to oversee the daily operations of the West Acton Citizens’ Library while also leading marketing and communications efforts for both the Citizens’ Library and the Acton Memorial Library. This position combines public service, community engagement, and promotional strategy to ensure that both libraries are welcoming, vibrant, and well-utilized community resources. This is a full-time, benefitted 36-hour position.

Under the general supervision of the Library Director and Assistant Library Director, the Librarian I will: Oversee the daily operation of the West Acton Citizens’ Library, including working with library assistants, senior workers, and volunteers. Provide public service by assisting patrons with reference and readers’ advisory, technology help, circulation, and other library needs. Develop and maintain collections for the Citizens’ Library in collaboration with professional staff; assist with selection, ordering, and weeding. Plan and coordinate programs for the Citizens’ Library, including community partnerships and outreach events, in coordination with Acton Memorial Library. Lead marketing and communications for both libraries, including: Creating and maintaining promotional materials, newsletters, and social media content; designing graphics and other visual materials to promote programs and services; and developing publicity strategies to broaden community awareness and engagement. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work schedule includes one night a week, one Saturday in three required, and occasional Sundays, as needed from early October through mid-June at time and a half. This position will be based out of our West Acton Citizens’ Library branch with some hours scheduled at the Acton Memorial Library. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by programs and services.

Qualifications

ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or enrollment in an MLS program with significant progress toward completion. Experience providing public library service. Demonstrated experience with marketing, communications, or public relations. Strong computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office and online communications tools.

Public library experience, especially in a branch or small library setting. Proficiency with design and communication tools such as Canva, Constant Contact, and WordPress. Event planning and community outreach experience.
