TEEN SERVICES LIBRARIAN, Robbins Library - Arlington, MA (Arlington)

Schedule: 12:00-6:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday
Are you looking for a fun and friendly library with a vibrant teen population? We are looking for an individual to join our team as a Part Time Teen Services Librarian in our busy Teen Space. This person will engage in professional library work such as providing reference and readers advisory services, responding to reference inquiries, setting expectations and managing patron behavior in the Library’s Teen Area. The part-time Teen Services Librarian will also assist in planning and organizing programs and services for teens and all other related work, as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Part Time Teen Services Librarian will oversee the regular operations of the Teen Space by maintaining an engaging space and enforcing library policies; use the integrated library system (Sierra) to locate materials for patrons within the Minuteman Library Network; and provide reference and reader’s advisory service to teens, parents, school staff, and other adults working with teens at the Robbins Library. May also work at the Children’s service desk as required.
The Part Time Teen Services Librarian will assist the Head of Teen Services with a wide variety of professional duties including liaising with the public schools; updates to the library website; creating informational signs, posters and displays; preparing book lists and subject bibliographies for teens; maintaining records of activities, room use, and other library services; maintaining equipment and resources in the Teen Space, and instructing teen patrons in their use; maintaining materials budgets for traditional and non-traditional library collections; and creating promotional materials supporting programs, collections, and services.
Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have demonstrated the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff and the public; the ability to instruct library patrons in the use of online databases and other library services and equipment; the ability to coordinate workflow and adapt to a variety of tasks and situations; demonstrated ability and affinity for working and communicating with teen patrons; the flexibility to adapt to constantly changing technology; the ability to troubleshoot software problems; demonstrated excellent customer service and problem-solving skills and excellent oral and written communication skills; and demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, acquire new skills and solve problems.
Education
Master's Degree in Library and Information Science and one year of professional library experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent customer service and experience working with teens and adults. Experience with teen collection development, reader’s advisory, and programming experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of professional library work with an emphasis in the area of teen services as well as knowledge, understanding and enthusiasm for teens development processes. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff and the public and an ability and affinity for working and communicating with teen patrons.
