Head of Adult Services, Mansfield Public Library (Mansfield)

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Head of Adult Services Librarian is responsible for providing excellent library service to adults and teens. This position is responsible for planning and implementing programs, collection development, reader’s advisory, providing reference and assisting adult and teen patrons with technology. This position includes maintaining the library’s Teen Space, supporting local school curriculum, and connecting teen library patrons with information.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Manages and directs the adult and teen departments at the Mansfield Public Library.
-Plans, organizes, directs and implements programs and activities for adults and teens; plans and develops related public relations materials.
-Provides reference and reader advisory services for adults and teens.
-Develops and maintains the adult and teen collections in a variety of formats using appropriate review sources. Collection maintenance includes withdrawing books and upkeep of series sections.
-Writes and manages grants relating to adult and teen services.
-Maintains and supervises town historical information in the Certuse Room archives.
-Provides excellent professional services by assisting patrons with information retrieval, location of materials, use of computers and databases.
-Maintains an active online presence through our website, social media and the library newsletter.
-Provides library outreach and collaborates with community groups and schools.
-Represents the library when attending workshops, webinars, conferences to keep abreast of appropriate emerging technologies. Keeps informed of current   trends and developments affecting libraries.
-Provides monthly and annual statistics on use of resources, programs and reference questions to the Director.
-Other duties as required including circulation.

Qualifications

BACKGROUND REQUIRED:
-Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school.
-A minimum of three years’ library experience is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Physically able to bend, stretch and lift materials from floor to overhead shelves. 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
-Broad technology experience, including experience with Microsoft Office, reference databases, and solid knowledge of social media; expertise with website   coding and management, social media and digital delivery. Ability to troubleshoot library, computer and systems issues. 
-Strong public service orientation and skills, and strong organizational skills.
-Experience in creating, developing, executing, and evaluating compelling programs for adults and teens.
-Ability to work effectively with the public, including oral and written communication skills.
-Ability to communicate with and inspire teen readers.
-Ability and interest in working with other staff and departments on cooperative approaches to service.
-Ability to integrate emerging technologies into traditional services.
-Knowledge of reference sources and databases.
-Thorough knowledge of teen literature.
-Familiarity with automated library systems and technology required.
-Supervisory skills requiring adherence to professional standards.
-Marketing skills and grant writing skills are highly desirable.
-Flexible, dependable team player.
