Part Time Library Assistant / Technology Assistant, Milton Public Library (Milton)

General Statement of Duties

Serves as an essential team member of the IT/Tech Services department.  Works with the Head of Tech Services to maintain Library technology and to support staff in its use.  Also, provides library services to patrons at public service desks, while working as an integral part of the Milton Public Library.

Responsibilities

- Works with the Head of Tech Services to maintain the Library’s technology infrastructure; including:
     - Staff and public computers and laptops
     - Print and scanning services
     - LAN and wireless networks
     - Library related services - book sorter, self checkout machines, etc.
     - Building related services - camera system, Little Green Button, intercoms, etc.
- Works with the Town’s IT Department, OCLN Central Site, and technology vendors,  as required
- Assists Library staff with troubleshooting staff and public technology issues
- Performs regular maintenance and updates for Library computers and technology
- Responsible for providing assistance to patrons at public service desks, including the Circulation Desk.  Duties include charging materials to patrons, helping them with accounts and entering data in the Library’s computer system.

Supervision Received

Works under the general direction of the Head of Tech Services.  May also work under the direction of the Head of Circulation when appropriate, or independently when assigned.

Work schedule 

Schedule includes nights and weekends. 

Qualifications

Education: Minimum requirement is a high school diploma; college degree preferred.

Experience:   Two years of library, IT,  or equivalent experience preferred. We are looking for someone with customer service experience and solid technology troubleshooting skills. 

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry books and other library materials, push loaded book trucks, and operate a computer keyboard and barcode scanner.  Willingness and ability to work in a variety of locations at the Library.

This is a union position and the salary is on a step scale.
