Youth Services Librarian, Medway Public Library (Medway)
The Town of Medway is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Youth Librarian to lead youth services for children and teens ages 0–18. Under the direction of the Library Director, this position plans and delivers engaging programs, provides reference and reader’s advisory services, develops youth collections, and builds partnerships with local schools, childcare providers, and community organizations.
The ideal candidate is an organized, collaborative professional who enjoys working with children, teens, families, educators, and community partners and is passionate about providing inclusive, innovative library services.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan and conduct story times, book clubs, workshops, STEAM programs, summer reading activities, and special events for children and teens.
• Collaborate with the Makerspace Coordinator, volunteers, schools, and community organizations on youth programming and outreach.
• Provide reference, reader’s advisory, and general library services to youth, families, caregivers, and educators.
• Select, evaluate, maintain, and weed youth materials and collections.
• Serve as liaison to middle and high schools, including coordinating reading lists and supporting school assignments.
• Recruit, train, and supervise teen volunteers.
• Promote Library services through community outreach and special events.
• Develop partnerships with Medway Public Schools, childcare providers, and other community organizations.
• Identify grant opportunities and funding sources to support youth programming.
• Maintain knowledge of and utilize resources available through the Massachusetts Library System and other library agencies.
• Assist with circulation and other general library functions as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.
• Two to four years of progressively responsible library experience, preferably in a public library.
• Excellent communication, organization, planning, and time-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy public library environment.
• Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and excellent customer service.
• Ability to work effectively with children, teens, families, educators, coworkers, and community partners.
