Overview
The MBLC provides public libraries two grant opportunities for the summer. Libraries may apply for one or both. No strategic plans required. Applications are due by November 15, 2019.
Grant Opportunities
Summer Learning Grants
While summer reading programs are a well-established tradition, libraries offer many other opportunities for learning during the summer months. This program supports expanding the concept of summer learning in libraries beyond reading. Public libraries may apply for funds in the range of $1000-2000 to carry out a project that promotes youth learning in their community during the summer.
Examples could include teen internships, youth designing an escape room event for the library, a gardening series in partnership with your local Parks and Rec, offering healthy activities if you serve as a summer lunch site, etc.
Libraries of all sizes throughout the Commonwealth are encouraged to apply.
Summer Software Grants
Licenses for the reading tracking software program Beanstack are available. This award will provide a license for two years - 2020 and 2021. Because the number of licenses are limited, libraries will be prioritized based on need.
While these are called "summer" grants, our hope is that libraries will use the software to support year-round library programing.
