Assistant Circulation Supervisor, Wellesley Free Library (Wellesley)

Due to promotion, the Wellesley Free Library (WFL) is seeking a fearless, flexible and fun leader to join our team full time (35 hours/week). The Assistant Circulation Supervisor oversees the operations of the WFL’s Circulation Department at the Main Library and two branches.  Under the direction of the Circulation Supervisor, the incumbent assists in the direct supervision of Departmental personnel; is responsible for ensuring the highest level of customer service to patrons; approves over 20 timecards for Departmental staff; assists in scheduling; and manages the Department’s technology under the direction of the Circulation Supervisor and IT Director.  The incumbent assists in directing the provision of service at the Circulation Desk and provides direct customer service to patrons; assists in the oversight of stack maintenance including supervision of pages; and may serve as the Person In Charge of the building in the absence of Administration.

Reporting to the Circulation Supervisor, the Assistant Circulation Supervisor’s primary responsibilities include the management of Department staff and services, setting and monitoring Departmental goals and objectives.  The incumbent’s work requires knowledge of the WFL’s resources, automated system, cash accounting, policies and procedures.  The ability to communicate, exercise good judgment and work effectively with all other WFL Departments is essential. The incumbent works to identify problems and develop, plan and implement successful solutions.

The successful candidate will have strong, positive communication and interpersonal skills; previous library, supervisory, personnel management,  and public sector experience; the ability and willingness to handle multiple responsibilities; strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills; the ability to consistently work calmly, diplomatically and accurately, even in high pressure situations; the ability to adapt quickly and easily to new procedures and practices in a continually evolving environment.  Work hours will include weekdays and evenings.

Qualifications

Requires: Bachelor’s Degree; two years of related experience, including management, library circulation and/or customer service; demonstrated ability to supervise others, including a thorough understanding of the principles of effective supervisory management; experience with supervising cash collections and reconciling cash drawers; excellent computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, Internet searches and software specific to libraries and the ability to learn new applications; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, analytical, and organizational skills; knowledge of the Dewey Decimal Classification System and its application. Preferred: Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science.
